BUSINESS MATTERS: Shenkin enjoying the high life in new career.Byline: Howard Wright Howard Gregory Wright (born December 20 1967, in San Diego, California) is an American professional basketball player. He is a 6'8" (203 cm) 220 lb (100 kg) forward and played collegiately at Stanford University from 1978–82. JETS to jets: that's been the career path for former jump jockey Gordon Shenkin, who has landed a job as first officer for the Jersey-based firm Aviation Beauport. Shenkin, 32, who served his time as a conditional rider with Roddy Baker and later took out an amateur's licence, started the long haul Long distance. Long haul implies traversing a state or a country. Contrast with short haul. to becoming a pilot in 1999. He approached the Jockeys' Employment & Training Scheme (JETS) for help after taking flying lessons at the suggestion of his partner Vicki Lucas's uncle, a captain with British Airways British Airways in full British Airways PLC International passenger airline based in London. In 1936 British Airways Ltd. was founded through the merger of three smaller airlines. , and now, he says, the hard work has paid off. "I'd like to thank JETS for their support, especially in the early stages of job hunting," he says. "I read a statistic that 45 per cent of all qualified commercial pilots never gain employment, so I feel very lucky to have got this job."
