Byline: COLIN LEWIS Business Editor

BUSINESSES across Coventry and Warwickshire are being urged to take part in a scheme to help them save money - and the environment.

The Energy Efficiency Scheme for Employers and Employees (EESEE) encourages staff to adopt energy- saving measures at home in the belief that they will bring these practices into work, thus saving money for their employers.

The scheme is run by the Warwickshire Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC EEAC Equal Employment Advisory Council

Its aim is to provide an incentive to increase energy efficiency and to reduce carbon emissions, however there have been ongoing calls to replace it with a proper carbon tax. , the tax charged on business energy use.

"For example, a PC monitor left on overnight wastes enough energy to laser print 800 A4 pages.

"Companies whose staff adopt the energy-saving practices recommended on the EESEE scheme could save on average 10 to 15 per cent on their fuel bills, which increases their profit margins and gives them the competitive edge."

The scheme involves distributing questionnaires to staff, hosting quizzes and organising exhibitions. Organisations interested in finding out more about the scheme can ring the EEAC on freephone 0800 085 0289.
