HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  Alliance has been awarded an $8,000 grant from Trust Management Services LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

 to support the rapid HIV testing project and a $7,000 grant from the Kent Richard Hofmann Foundation to buy food cards to help provide for clients' nutrition.

Lane Metro Partnership has contributed $10,000 to the Siuslaw Fisherman's Association to help pay for repairs to its ice machine. The funds came from a grant provided by The Old Growth funds, administered by the state Economic and Community Development Department. The association matched the grant with $20,000.

TheBathFactory.com, a Eugene-based online retailer specializing in bath and body products for children and adults, has donated $3,000 worth of toys to the Relief Nursery to help local families in need.

The American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross. , Oregon Pacific chapter, has received the following donations from businesses and foundations: Crane Creek Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, $5,000 for general support; the R.W. Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, $5,000 for the National Disaster Hurricane Relief Fund/Hurricane Relief and $1,000 for general support; Lilja Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, $5,000 for disaster relief in South Douglas County.

Womenspace has received a $1,000 donation from U.S. Bank in Eugene on behalf of an employee, Joan Loomis, who received a U.S. Bank Five Star Volunteer Award for exceptional volunteer service. Loomis has served on the Womenspace board of directors since 2003, and is a member of the finance and fund-raising committees. Womenspace's mission is to end domestic violence by empowering women and children, and by changing community standards.

Girl Scouts of Western Rivers Council has received the following grants: $14,750 from the Emil W. and Lois E. Brammert Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation; and $250 from the Tate Family Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. Both gifts will be used to construct a ramp for accessibility to the program area in the lower level of the building.

Mainstream Housing Inc., a nonprofit provider of affordable housing in Eugene, has received the following grants: $2,500 from KeyBank; $3,500 from U.S. Bank; $3,500 from Washington Mutual; and $2,500 from Wells Fargo. The gifts will support the agency's resident service program and development activities.

FOOD for Lane County received the following donations: Arlie & Co. purchased 3,000 pounds of red beans and 1,750 pounds of elbow macaroni, valued at $2,000, from McDonald Wholesale, and Arlie employees repackaged the dry goods into 8,000 bags of food, which was packaged with a vegetable broth for making soup. Lane County commissioners and Safeway each contributed $2,500 for the purchase of 560 turkeys, which were distributed in emergency food boxes to families in need over the holiday season. Each commissioner donated $500 from their discretionary funds, and Safeway matched the gift. It's the sixth year that commissioners and Safeway have made such a donation.
