Donations

The Springfield Elks Lodge has donated $1,500 to the Springfield Family Resource Center.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation received a donation of $4,336 that was raised by employees of the Safeway Store at 18th Avenue and Oak Street in Eugene.

Valley River Center donated more than $20,000 to a total of 12 local schools as part of its Money for Minds fund-raising program. Recipients were Sheldon High School, $3,000; Willamette High School, $2,000; North Eugene High School, $1,200; Jefferson Middle School, $3,000; Cal Young Middle School, $2,000; Monroe Middle School, $1,200; Veneta Elementary School, $3,000; O'Hara Elementary School, $2,000; Mohawk Elementary School, $1,200; Evergreen Elementary School, $500; Angus Stewart Middle School, $500; and United Christian Academy, $500.

The Eugene Active 20/30 Club recently donated a total of $5,000 to P.A.W.S. (People and Animals Who Serve), Heavy Athletics, The American Red Cross First Aid Service Team and the Candlelighters.

About 25 employees of Weyerhaeuser Co. in Lane County have donated a total of $3,500 in labor and money to Birth to Three, the Lowell School District and All Outdoors, Inc. of Bend.

The Oregon Community Foundation, which works with family, individual and business donors to manage a permanent endowment fund, recently awarded a total of $4.8 million to 504 nonprofit agencies around the state. Local recipients include the McKenzie River Trust, $25,000 to hire a development director; Boys and Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley, $20,000 toward funding technology instruction; the University of Oregon's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, $17,000 for an art education studio program; Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Oregon Chapter, $13,000 for the Eugene community Cancer Outreach Initiative; Cottage Theatre in Cottage Grove, $10,000 for construction of a children's workshop/theater hall and other improvements; Creswell Public Library Foundation, $10,000 toward a library relocation project; Peace Harbor Hospital Foundation in Florence, $10,000 for healthcare professional training program at Siuslaw High School; and Oregon Aviation Historical Society of Cottage Grove, $2,400 toward equipment and materials for cataloguing artifacts.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Emerald Valley has received additional donations supporting educational and recreational after-school programs from the city of Eugene's Out of School Recreation Programs for Youth, $60,000; the GI Joe's Foundation, $5,000; and the West 11th Avenue Wal-Mart, $500.

The Pearl Buck Center has received grant awards totaling $57,000 from the Eugene Rotary Duck Race, the JFR Foundation and the San Francisco Foundation.

The Allstate Foundation has awarded a grant of $5,200 to Junior Achievement of Western Oregon to support eight personal economics classes that reach a total of 200 students.

The OASIS Education Center has received the following grants: The McKay Family Foundation, $5,000 to be applied toward funding for the OASIS Tutoring Program; Woodard Family Foundation, $2,500 to be used for rural expansion of the tutoring program; Jerry's Home Improvement Center, $500 to buy books for the tutor library; and The J. Glenn and Ellen A. Cougill Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, $1,000 to be used for operating expenses.

The United Association of Journeymen and Local 290 have collected $3,000 to purchase clothing, footwear and basic necessities for the children and families served by the Relief Nursery.

Weyerhaeuser Co. employees and contractors from two operations in Springfield raised a total of $6,000 for the annual Toys for Tots program late last year.

The Center for Community Counseling in Eugene received the following grants: PeaceHealth in Eugene, $10,000 matching grant to support long-term mental health services; McKay Family Foundation, $5,000 to support three anger management classes; and Chambers Family Foundation, $10,000 to support services in the community.

The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation awarded the following grants: $5,000 to the Cottage Grove Recreation Association for equipment upgrades and office relocation; $5,000 to Emerald Kidsports Foundation for its volleyball program; $4,500 to The Relief Nursery as a surprise gift; $3,666 to Delight Valley Elementary School in Cottage Grove for its Rural Outdoor School Program; $3,250 to Junior Achievement of Western Oregon for program and volunteer training expenses; $3,000 to Marcola's elementary and junior high schools for safety repairs; and $1,000 to Encore Theatre for its performance and workshop tour.

Northwest Community Credit Union branch managers around the state donated a total of $1,500 in December to support the Springfield Jaycees' Children's Holiday Shopping Tour.

The Assistance League of Eugene received the following grants: $500 from the Delta Oaks Wal-Mart for Operation School Bell; and $1,000 from the Edwin E. and June E. Cone Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation for general support.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County has received a grant of $1,080.50 from the Fred Meyer Foundation to support its after-school programs and child development center.
