It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. residents to spend their money right here in town, and an annual tradition that will resume tonight was born. The Home and Business Expo, sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, will get under way at 5:30 p.m. under a giant white tent set up on the southeast corner of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway. Fifteen businesses will have exhibits outside the tent, and 140 more have reserved booths inside, said Cheryl Adams, commissioner of the Santa Clarita Valley Film & Tourism Bureau and a spokeswoman for the chamber. The purpose of the event, which will continue 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, is to publicize pub·li·cize tr.v. pub·li·cized, pub·li·ciz·ing, pub·li·ciz·es To give publicity to. publicize or -cise Verb [-cizing, -cized] the goods and services In economics, economic output is divided into physical goods and intangible services. We were very small and very scattered in our communities, and our shopping was not great,'' she recalled. ``I think that is definitely a thing of the past. I really haven't had a need to go outside the area to shop, and I think lots of folks believe that,'' she said. Much has changed since then, with influx of national chain stores and small businesses, as well. Local merchants, Adams said, participate in the expo because ``it's a great place for them to showcase what they do and what they provide.'' A new feature this year is the inclusion of ``home'' in the name of the expo, which Adams said was meant to alert the public that there are exhibitors who specialize in residential decor and home improvement. Another change is that the expo is divided into themed areas such as emergency preparedness and environmental interests, Adams said. Businesses related to the theme have set up their booths near each other, to lend a more cohesive, less haphazard arrangement to the exhibit.
