BUSINESS EXPO CASHES IN; ANNUAL SCV EVENT PROVIDES SHOWCASE FOR AREA COMMERCE.

Local businesses displayed their goods to hundreds of residents Saturday during the second day of the Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Valley's 14th annual Home and Business Expo in Valencia.

Presented by the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Chamber of Commerce, this year's expo features 170 local businesses and vendors under numerous tents and booths including several theme areas and exhibits.

The exhibits are divided into five areas of interest: technology, home improvement, children, special occasions and healthy lifestyles.

``With all the new businesses moving in, most of us cannot only live and spend our money here, we can work here too,'' she said.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Sgt. Bruce Sonnenblick also said the expo is good for the city. ``I've been there twice already (Saturday), and everything is going well.''

The annual event is designed to familiarize the local community with the businesses and services available in the valley, according to according to

During Friday's opening night, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a ``Taste of the Expo'' mixer was held to launch the annual event. Assemblyman George Runner, R-Lancaster, and several others were on hand to help kick off the event.

Among the businesses featured at the expo were Kaiser Permanente, The Newhall Land and Farming Company The Newhall Land and Farming Company is a land management company based in Valencia, California, United States. The company is responsible for the master community planning of Valencia, as well as the management of farm land elsewhere in the state. , Valencia Bank and Trust, and the Hampton Inn.

Based on attendance figures from previous years, Popp said up to 18,000 people are expected to visit the expo through today.

The expo is scheduled to be held today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.
