Cheryl Crumbley joined the staff of United Way of Lane County as the director of marketing and communications. Crumbley worked previously as business owner of Catalyst Communications and as communications director for FOOD for Lane County.

Annetta Forrer has been hired by the Center for Community Counseling as fund development coordinator. Forrer worked formerly as development director of Girl Scouts of Western Rivers Council.

Soroptimist International of Eugene has elected the following board members: Major Florence Murray of the Salvation Army as president; Karen Sherman, AP & PR manager of Industrial Finishes & Systems, as president elect; Peggy Wallace, owner of Gerda's Print Wear, as treasurer; and Regina Williams of Windemer/Jean Tate as recording secretary.

Newport Pacific Corporation, which operates Mo's Restaurants throughout the Oregon coast has been named the large business winner of the Restaurant Neighbor Award by the National Restaurant Association for their support of the Oregon National Guard. In addition to helping the community send care packages to Iraq, Mo's fed 900 National Guards members about to be deployed as well as over 3,000 of their friends and family. The restaurant recently found a way to send clam chowder chowder, stew of fish or shellfish with potatoes, onions, and pork (usually salt pork), thickened with crumbled hard bread. The name chowder seems to have originated from the French word chaudière  to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
