, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 1996--Frank J. Mercardante, chief executive officer, on Tuesday announced that the board of directors of BUSINESS BANK of California The Bank of California was founded in San Francisco, California on July 5, 1864 by William Chapman Ralston. It was the first commercial bank in the Western United States, the second-richest bank in the nation, and considered instrumental in developing the American Old West.  declared a 20 percent stock dividend at its regular meeting, held on Sept. 18, 1996.

The stock distribution will be made on October 23, to shareholders of record as of Oct. 2, 1996.

In commenting on the dividend, Mercardante stated that the board of directors felt that the bank's continued profitability warranted their decision to recognize the support of its shareholder's with the declared dividend declared dividend
