BUSES ROLL EARLY AT LA RINDA GREYHOUND BEGINS SERVICE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.

MISSION HILLS - In a surprise move, Greyhound Lines Greyhound Lines is the largest inter-city common carrier of passengers by bus in North America , serving 2,200 destinations in the United States. It was founded in Hibbing, Minnesota, USA, in 1914 and incorporated as "The Greyhound Corporation" in 1926.  launched bus service Tuesday at its new Mission Hills facility despite protests from local officials and residents concerned about increased traffic.

City Council President Alex Padilla Alex Padilla is a politician in California. He was elected as the State Senator for the 20th District of California in November 2006 and was inaugurated in early December. Greyhound spokeswoman Jameel Bradfield said she could only confirm that the service of 24 buses a day had started. Bradfield said she was not told why the decision was made to begin the service on Tuesday instead of Feb. 1, as originally planned.

Padilla and other local elected officials had joined residents in a recent protest of the bus service - which had first been blocked more than 20 years earlier, prompting Greyhound to move to San Fernando.

However, its lease there has expired and company officials said the La Rinda Plaza site The Plaza Site is an archaeological site near Ochopee, Florida. It is located in the Big Cypress National Preserve. On May 28, 1986, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.  was preferable because it was closer to freeways.

Padilla said he has been talking with Greyhound officials about finding a site farther from a residential area.

Officials with La Rinda Plaza, which had defended the arrangement, were not available for comment.

Residents had collected more than 400 signatures on petitions seeking to block the bus depot.
