Byline: Cecilia Chan Staff Writer

What's in a word? Plenty if it's an eight-letter word used in an advertisement promoting a Web site at a couple of kiosks around the city.

``They pay the city X amount of dollars for allowing the kiosks to be there, but the city has the ultimate control as to what goes in the bus stops as far as advertisement is concerned,'' Williamson said. ``They have editorial rights, but we don't want vulgar stuff up there.''

``I think we have 400 posters up and zero complaints'' until now, said Seidel, whose company operates in five counties. ``What might be offensive to you and I might not be offensive to someone else. It's a judgment call.''

Del Rey-based Bizrate.com, which provides ratings on 2,700 online merchants based on customer feedback, launched its nationwide campaign in early October, said Tran Vu, Bizrate.com spokeswoman.

``Our intent was not to offend anyone,'' she said. ``Our campaign is to educate consumers about shopping online.''

She said the company's rating is considered one of the best on the Internet and is used by Consumer Reports.

``To me it's not that big of an issue,'' said Councilman Steve Sojka, who applauded Eller Media for acting so quickly. ``I certainly would like to see something else.''
