BUS DRIVERS, RIDERS BLAST PROPOSED MTA CUTS.

The hearing was the first opportunity for the public to comment on Chief Executive Officer Julian Burke's balanced budget Balanced budget

Burke did not attend the meeting, but will be present for Wednesday's meeting at which the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board will consider the 1998-99 spending plan.

The transit agency, which last year disbanded its own police bureau in favor of contracting with the Los Angeles Police and county Sheriff's departments, has proposed slashing its budget for LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
