BUS CONTRACTOR GETS POOR REVIEW FROM CITY.

After months of complaints about bus scheduling, a city panel has recommended against renewing a five-year contract with Orange County-based Ryder/ATE Inc.

Instead, the six-member panel suggested awarding the $29 million contract to ATC/Vancom Inc. to oversee day-to-day city transit operations.

Many Dial-A-Ride passengers complained that Ryder/ATE failed to pick them up or abandoned them at bus stops.

``We've had problems right along,'' Councilwoman Jo Anne Darcy said. ``It is mostly complaints about scheduling.''

Ryder/ATE officials will not be available until Wednesday for comment, according to according to
