BURROUGHS SOCCER TOURNEY: SERVITE MANAGES TO SHOCK BURROUGHS.

Byline: Patrick Hipes Daily News Staff Writer

The Burroughs boys' soccer tournament has quickly become among the biggest and best high school tournaments in the area, so it was only fitting that Monday's championship game followed form.

It took 96 minutes and sudden-death overtime to settle it, but Servite High midfielder Keith Buckley's searing sear 1

The victory by Servite (7-0) snapped the 19-game unbeaten streak of the No. 4 Highlanders (3-1), who experimented with numerous players looking ahead to Wednesday's Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. ``I haven't told the guys yet, but we're going to play a lot of people tonight,'' Royal coach Kevin Corley confided before kickoff. ``We've got Camarillo on Wednesday and Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  on Friday. The goal came with 6 minutes left in sudden death, when Buckley crushed a loose ball from the top of the box, using the outside lace to hook the ball away from Montgomery into the upper-right corner of the net.

Burroughs, which outshot Servite 23-10 in Saturday's 1-0 semifinal loss, beat three traditionally strong Mission League teams - Harvard-Westlake, No. 10 St. Francis, and the Celts - along the way, outscoring teams 13-6.

``We've been working hard during practices,'' said Indians midfielder Miguel Meneses, who scored in the 37th minute to give Burroughs a 3-1 lead.

``When we do that, it shows in the games.''

The victory gave Burroughs coach Mike Kodama family bragging rights. Brother Rob coaches Crespi.

The tournament, in its sixth season, has become one of the Area's most competitive. This year's 16 team field has six league champions from last year and five teams in the Daily News preseason Top 10.
