His team had opened the season by taking nearly 30 shots in its first game, a third by Shaw, but none scored and his team lost.

The senior striker was on target Monday as he scored two second-half goals to give St. Francis of La Canada Flintridge a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over defending tournament champion Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  in the final of the Brandt Burroughs boys' soccer tournament at Burroughs High in Burbank.

``Our first game, it was just like this,'' said Shaw, who was named the tournament MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994.  this time. If they were gonna beat us, it was gonna be because they were the better team.''

Shaw scored on an assist by Donovan Schuil in the 63rd minute and scored the winning goal less than five minutes later after Highlanders goalkeeper Rafael Calderon left the box and ended up deflecting a high-bouncing ball to Shaw instead of stopping it.

``Ryan usually is the big-game player,'' St. Francis coach Glen Appels said. ``That's happened for us since he was a sophomore.

``It wasn't a surprise to us. If you told me we were gonna win 2-0 or 2-1 and asked who was going to score, I'd have said Ryan.''

The victory marks the Golden Knights' first championship at the tournament. They were the only team in the seven-pool field with a loss to advance to the championship bracket.

Royal appeared ready to defend its title when Jario Quintero scored to gave the Highlanders (5-1) the lead midway through the first half. The goal was the first scored against St. Francis (5-1) in 406 minutes, the last being an early score on a penalty kick by Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Despite playing without midfielder Bryan Brooks, who is out with an ankle injury, Royal produced several scoring opportunities during the first half. The Golden Knights' best chance came in the half's closing minutes as Shaw and Calderon went for a loose ball at the base of the goal. Shaw tumbled as he took the shot and it went just wide.
