BURROUGHS HOLDS ON BURROUGHS 43, BURBANK 31.

Byline: Dave Desmond Staff Writer

Burroughs High must wait until Sunday to find out whether it will be granted an at-large berth into next week's Southern Section Division II playoffs. But the next 24 hours won't seem nearly as long as the second half of Friday night's 43-31 Foothill League victory over crosstown cross·town or cross-town

With Burbank trailing 37-31, the Bulldogs (2-8, 0-5) appeared to move inside the Burroughs 10 but were called for a holding penalty. On the next play, Darrel Ditri of Burroughs intercepted a Mike McDonald Mike McDonald (born June 22, 1958 in North Hollywood, California) is a former professional American football player who played long snapper for nine seasons in the NFL.  pass and returned it 60 yards to clinch the victory with just 24 seconds left.

The victory was Burroughs' 10th in a row over Burbank and extended its series lead to 35-19. The Indians also clinched fourth place, which gives them a chance to make the playoffs.

``That was too close for comfort, but we weren't going to let it slip away,`` said Matt Welch, who scored on a 33-yard run and a 4-yard reception from David Brooks David Brooks is the name of:

Brooks, usually a running back, started at quarterback and had a big day. He passed for 99 yards and rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.

Mitch Dolfuss added 105 yards rushing on 19 carries and scored on a 4-yard run.

Mike McDonald completed 16 of 39 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns, one to Bryan Hwang for 21 yards, and a 33-yard touchdown to Rico Clark with 3:51 left to pull the Bulldogs within 37-31.

On Burroughs' following possession, Brooks was sacked twice by Roger Castillo, setting up a final opportunity to complete an improbable comeback by a Burbank team that had lost seven consecutive games.

Burroughs intercepted six Burbank passes, five thrown by McDonald.

T.J. McDonald of Burroughs, Mike McDonald's cousin, had two of the interceptions on his 17th birthday. He owns school records with 15 career interceptions and eight this season.
