BURROUGHS EDGES PAST LA CANADA.

Byline: Daily News

With former quarterback J.K. Scott now at Washington, Burroughs High School doesn't figure to win many games when it must air it out 30 times in one game.

But Friday night, the Indians needed every one of Chris Santoyo's career-high 209 yards passing and a 20-yard touchdown run by sophomore Randy Beckmann to hold off La Canada 17-14 in a nonleague game at Burroughs.

Beckmann broke three tackles to score, giving Burroughs (2-1) a 17-14 lead with 5:22 left in the third quarter. It would be one of the few successful runs the Indians would have all night, as they finished with minus-6 rushing yards.

La Canada (2-1) took a 14-10 lead midway through the second quarter, when running back Eric Leventon rambled in for a 5-yard touchdown. The drive was kept alive when holder Jeff Spangler connected with Leventon on a 19-yard pass on a fake field-goal attempt.
