When the Golden League boys basketball coaches announced who the Most Valuable Player would be, the news did not exactly send shock waves through the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Highland High School's John Burrell John Buster Burrell (born November 22, 1940 in Fort Worth, Texas) was an American football wide receiver in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Washington Redskins. He played college football for Rice University.  was the clear favorite from the beginning of the season when he scored a career-high 46 points in the Bulldogs overtime loss to Muir.

From that point on, the 6-foot-2 senior forward claimed a spot near the top of the area's leading scorers and held fast with a 29.9 points-per-game average through the remainder of the season. He finished the regular season ranked No. 7 in the state among scoring leaders.

Also selected to the all-league team from Highland were senior center Nick Howell and senior guard Mike Fawcett.

Antelope Valley, which finished second in the league race, had two all-league selections - junior forward Le'tre Kelly and junior guard Tony Walker.

 and junior forward Steve Eernisse were chosen from Palmdale. The Falcons took third in the Golden League.

Quartz Hill senior Brian Woodworth, Littlerock senior Bronson Pitts and Burroughs senior Rodney Brisco rounded out the all-league team.
