BURPO HECKLED AS CHIVAS USA FALLS D.C. UNITED 2, CHIVAS USA 1.

CARSON -- A Chivas USA player marveled at the postgame statistics.

``We didn't have any shots on goal in the second half,'' he kept repeating. Very true. The D.C. United D.C. In a game that featured six yellow cards and a pair of ejections, Chivas USA (8-7-10, 34 points) trailed almost from the outset. In the third minute, D.C. midfielder Christian Gomez lined up a free kick from the left of the Chivas goalbox.

His shot found a hole in the Chivas wall, and Preston Burpo's save attempt knocked the shot into the goal for a 1-0 lead.

``I think it is important to have a performance like that today,'' D.C. United coach Peter Nowak said of Gomez. ``Christian is an important part of our teamand scored two beautiful goals.''
