BURNS NAMED CHAIRMAN OF CCB FINANCIAL CORPORATION ROESSLER AND BRAME ELECTED TO BOARD

 DURHAM, N.C., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- At a called meeting of the board of directors of CCB Financial Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: CCBF) today, William L. Burns, Jr. was named chairman of the board, replacing George Watts Hill who died in January of this year. Ernest C. Roessler and James B. Brame, Jr. were both elected to the board during CCB Financial Corporation's shareholders' meeting this morning at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
 W.L. Burns, Jr. joined Central Carolina Bank (CCB) in 1960 as a vice president. In 1974, he was named president and CEO. After serving in that capacity for 18 years, early in 1992 he announced plans to retire. In December, Ernest C. Roessler was named president-elect and CEO-elect. Roessler assumed office today, following the shareholders' meeting.
 Roessler joined CCB in September of 1988 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. His responsibilities included asset and liability management, strategic planning, funds management, investments, finance, data processing, and operations. A 1962 graduate of Dartmouth College, he received his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1963. After twenty-four years with Mellon Bank of Pittsburgh, Pa., he joined Lane Financial, Inc. in Northbrook, Ill. in 1987 as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He is active in the community, serving on the board of directors for the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, as president of the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, as a director of the Durham Rotary Club, as president of the Northern Carolina Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, and as a member of the development committee of the Hill Learning Development Center.
 James B. Brame, Jr. is president and chief executive officer of Brame Specialty Co., Inc in Durham. A native of Durham, he received his B.A. in economics and history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1967. In 1970, he received his MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill. His community activities include having served as the vice president of the UNC General Alumni Association, on the UNC Alumni board of directors, as a member of the board of directors and the executive committee of the Durham Chamber of Commerce, as a trustee for Durham Academy, as a member of the board of directors for the Durham Merchants Association, as a board member of the Durham United Way, and as a board member for the YMCA of Durham.
 Brame's professional activities are also numerous, including having served as president of the Southeastern Paper Trade Association, as president of the Durham Sales and Marketing Executive Club, as chairman of the National Paper Trade Association, and currently, as a trustee of the Paper Foundation.
