French received a good luck phone call Wednesday afternoon from Bill Jensen, a fellow Glendale firefighter who is still recovering at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks from the injuries he received in the same blaze.

French said his experience has taught him never to take anything for granted.

``We had anticipated he'd probably come back in some limited capacity, but his recovery was very good,'' Starr said.

French said he is eager to go out on his first call. He said he does not expect to suffer emotional scars from the fire, which seriously burned the left side of his face.

``I'm just going to put that aside and go out and do the job,'' French said.

Jensen, who received burns over 70 percent of his body in the fire, may be able to leave Grossman Burn Center by the end of the month, said Larry Weinberg
