BURNED DOG SURVIVES WITH HELP FROM FRIEND.

Byline: Marni McEntee Daily News Staff Writer

By the time June Roberts rescued a terrier-poodle named Annie from the East Valley Animal Shelter "Dog Pound" redirects here. For the rap group, see Tha Dogg Pound.

An animal shelter is a facility that houses homeless, lost or abandoned animals; primarily a large variety of dogs and cats.
, the animal - which had been set on fire six days earlier - was a living skeleton.

Roberts rushed the 6-month-old puppy to a private veterinarian veterinarian /vet·er·i·nar·i·an/ (vet?er-i-nar´e-an) a person trained and authorized to practice veterinary medicine and surgery; a doctor of veterinary medicine.

``She's a brave little girl,'' said Roberts, who is taking care of Annie, one of several disabled, ill or aged dogs she keeps in her Studio City home.

``It's just the sweetest dog. It just licks your hand and it's very gentle. It will convalesce con·va·lesce

Roberts, the dog was doused with gasoline and set on fire.

Animal regulation officials said the case is still under investigation.

``We've gotten some information on who the possible suspect might be on that and we'll be following up on that this week,'' said Lt. Robert Pena of the Department of Animal Regulation, East Valley Care Center.

``The suspect from the best we've been able to figure out so far is a young adult,'' Pena said.

The dog was found in Mission Hills, and Pena said officials plan to talk this week to possible witnesses.

Pena is requesting that anyone with information on the crime call the Department of Animal Regulation at (818) 756-8445.

The animal was impounded at the East Valley Shelter until March 13 - apparently to give any owner an opportunity to claim the dog, Roberts said.

When no one claimed the dog, Roberts took her home - after nearly three weeks of treatment by veterinarian Kate Monroe Mrs Kate Monroe (played by Anna Quayle) was a teacher in the long-running BBC Children's television drama, Grange Hill. Kate appeared between 1990 to 1994.  at the Vet's Pet Clinic in Hollywood.
