The 15-year mortgages sold to Freddie Mac form the pool of mortgages that back the securities referred to as circled David Rothenberg, jabbing their fingers at him in silent taunt. From the rim of the sand pit in the Sepulveda Basin, country singer Kelli Lidell's recorded voice crooned: ``When I was young I could believe / That love would be just like the books I used to read. . . . But as the pages faded into life / I began to see my fairy tale fairy tale Simple narrative typically of folk origin dealing with supernatural beings. Fairy tales may be written or told for the amusement of children or may have a more sophisticated narrative containing supernatural or obviously improbable events, scenes, and personages like a double-sided knife. . . .'' That's what he wants to be known for - visual creativity and directorial brilliance - not for the incident in an Orange County motel 14 years ago that made headlines across the country, when his father, Charles Rothenberg, set him ablaze and left him to die. Rothenberg, who lives in North Hollywood and prefers to be known simply as ``Dave'' to eliminate all reminders of his father, got his chance to demonstrate his creativity Friday thanks in part to the Second Chance Foundation. Co-founded by singer-songwriter Lidell, herself a survivor of a near-fatal car crash seven years ago, the foundation was designed to help people who are getting a second chance at life. Lidell sent Rothenberg her latest album when she saw him on a television talk show and found out he wanted to direct music videos. He immediately identified with her song ``Here Today Gone Tomorrow,'' she said Friday. ``Dave is truly a survivor,'' Lidell said. ``He deserves a chance. He has such vision, especially for someone his age.'' Their common struggles with survival have helped forge a lasting relationship. ``He wears his scars on the outside, and I wear mine on the inside,'' she said. ``I don't think anything heals the scars, but . . . this is meaningful because (he's) getting a second chance.'' The video is scheduled to debut on a cable music channel Cable Music Channel (CMC) was an all-music video channel created by Ted Turner and launched in 1984 by Turner Broadcasting System, providing the first national competition to MTV.
