BURLINGTON AIR EXPRESS AWARDED GENERAL MOTORS INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS CONTRACT;

 BAX Exclusive Carrier for Air and Ocean Traffic
 Between Europe and North America
 IRVINE, Calif., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Burlington Air Express was awarded an international transportation logistics contract by General Motors Corp. for the movement of automotive products between Europe and North America according to David L. Marshall, Burlington's chairman and chief executive officer.
 "Burlington has the seamless transportation and communications systems to provide door-to-door delivery and logistics services on a worldwide basis to meet General Motors' requirements. More importantly, we understand GM's needs and will fulfill their expectations," said Marshall.
 In announcing the contract award, GM International Logistics cited Burlington's global logistics experience as a contributing factor in the selection of BAX as the exclusive air and ocean carrier for import and export shipments. GM estimates that 75 to 100 million pounds of freight will be involved on an annual basis.
 "GM will utilize Burlington as a manager to optimize global resources to achieve clear logistics objectives such as lower overall cost, reduced order cycle times and time-definite delivery. Burlington will act as GM's partner in fostering progressive change for continuous improvement and providing GM with competitive advantage around the world," according to Rob Schwalm, Burlington's vice president, Automotive.
 "Burlington has an extensive European transportation network centered around an impressive distribution facility in The Netherlands which GM will utilize as their European `Logistics Services Company,'" said John Marmul, manager, International Automotive Sales for Burlington.
 "Our European and North American Distribution Centers will perform total transportation management functions for GM. This will include door-to-door consolidation and distribution of vendor material to GM facilities between Europe and North America. We will centrally manage the specific needs of each shipment, balancing service needs with cost," Marmul said.
