Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  counties on Wednesday.

The pursuit, which began in Lake Los Angeles about 10:30 a.m., finally ended about 12:45 p.m. when the final two of three suspects surrendered. One had jumped out of the car earlier and been arrested.

The pursuit began after Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies received a call that two men and a woman appeared to be burglarizing a Lake Los Angeles home, said Lt. Wallace Fullerton of the Sheriff's Department's Lancaster station.

``Deputies were dispatched to the residence and they discovered three suspects leaving,'' Fullerton said. ``The three suspects jumped in this vehicle and the pursuit started.''

The suspects are believed to have burglarized as many as 30 homes in the Lake Los Angeles area, often stealing weapons, authorities said.

The chase reached speeds of 90 mph on two-lane Highway 138 and Interstate 15 before the deputies handed it off to the California Highway Patrol highway patrol

It continued into Riverside County, where at least one tire was flattened on Interstate 15. Near Lake Elsinore, the car slowed and a man riding in the back seat jumped out, lying down on the pavement to surrender.

The car stopped briefly and then sped off, with patrol cars in pursuit.

The car then exited the interstate in the Wildomar area and stopped in an intersection. The driver jumped out and attempted to carjack a car at a stoplight. That motorist sped away before the suspect could fully open the car door.

After the car stopped again on a rural road, officers fired pepper-ball pellets into it and the man and woman surrendered.
