The shooting followed a weekend burglary of the home and the theft of a car belonging to the woman who had been housesitting over the Memorial Day weekend, officials said. Both those crimes were blamed on the woman's ex-boyfriend, deputies said.

The dead man's name was not immediately released. He was described as a 35-year-old Lancaster man. The other man, 44, who was not identified by sheriff's officials, was treated at a hospital for a minor head wound and sent home, deputies said.

The shooting occurred before 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Callet Street in Palmdale.

Investigators learned that on Sunday, housesitter Elizabeth Frisbie had called sheriff's deputies about 10 a.m. to report that the home that she was sitting for had been burglarized. Stolen items included DVDs and computer gear.

Later that afternoon, Frisbie called back to report that her car had been stolen, officials said. According to according to

Officials say the investigation is still continuing.

Palmdale station deputies say the neighborhood is normally very quite and they have never had a call from that home before.
