 BURGER KING CORPORATION ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS
 TO ADDRESS WORLDWIDE GROWTH
 MIAMI, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Burger King Corporation announced today that Barry J. Gibbons is appointed chairman of the company in addition to his continued responsibility as chief executive officer. As chairman, he succeeds Ian A. Martin, chief operating officer and group managing director of Grand Metropolitan PLC, Burger King Corporation's parent company.
 "Since GrandMet's acquisition of Burger King in 1989, Barry has achieved an exceptional record of accomplishments in management and improved profitability," said Martin. "I am extremely happy to announce that he will become chairman and now function as Burger King Corporation's link to GrandMet in addition to his chief executive officer responsibilities."
 In addition, James B. Adamson, president of Burger King Corporation's USA Retail Division, is named to the newly created position of chief operating officer, Worldwide, reporting to Barry Gibbons. Both appointments will be effective Oct. 1, 1992.
 "As Burger King develops as a major international brand, the position of chief operating officer is essential in our drive to maintain the highest standard of global operational consistency," said Barry Gibbons. "Jim's track record in making retail operations both effective and efficient will be a tremendous asset in his new role."
 As president of Burger King Corporation's USA company-owned restaurant division, Adamson has overseen significant increases in restaurant profitability and operational quality, as well as improvement in service and marketing effectiveness.
 Under the new structure, Adamson will be responsible for Burger King Corporation's four worldwide operating Business Units. Reporting to him will be Sam Yong, managing director, Burger King Asia Pacific; Nigel Travis, managing director, Burger King Europe, Middle East and Africa; and Barry Conrad, president, Burger King Franchise Sales and Service for the Americas. In addition, Adamson will continue as president, Burger King USA Retail Division until a successor is named.
 Gibbons, prior to joining Burger King Corporation as chief executive officer in January 1989, was chairman and managing director of Grand Metropolitan Retailing Limited. He also held sales and marketing positions at Shell U.K. and Whitbread and Company before joining Grand Metropolitan in 1984.
 Adamson, prior to joining Burger King Corporation in his current position, was executive vice president, Marketing, for Revco, Inc. He has also held several senior management positions with Dayton Hudson, the Minneapolis based retailer, and the GAP Stores, Inc.
