BURDINES TO BEGIN $105. MILLION RENOVATION, EXPANSION AT EDISON MALL STORES IN FORT MYERS, FLA.
FORT MYERS, Fla., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Burdines has finalized plans for a $10.5 million expansion and renovation for its two locations in the Edison Mall, announced Burdines Chairman Howard Socol. The renovation, which is scheduled to begin in the spring of 1993, will double the floor space and available merchandise at the two stores, Socol said. "We're excited about this project that will dramatically enhance our ability to service our shoppers in the Fort Myers area." Renovations to the original Edison Mall Burdines' location, which will contain merchandise for the home, men's apparel and children's wear, will increase floor space to about 80,000 square feet in the home area alone, while doubling the men's space. The newer Burdines in the Edison Mall (formerly Maas Brothers), will double the size of women's apparel and accessories departments. "With such significant expansion we will be able to offer a breadth of merchandise never before available in this area," Socol said. "We will be able to better meet the needs and desires of Fort Myers shoppers by offering more vendors, styles and colors of thousands of products." Renovations, which will not disrupt business in either of the stores, is scheduled to be completed by the autumn of 1994. The Edison Mall is located at Colonial Boulevard and State Road 41. Burdines is Florida's largest department store chain with 45 locations throughout the state. -0- 12/18/92 /CONTACT: Carey Watson of Burdines, 305-577-1858/
