BURDEN LIFTED HART'S PATTON THRIVING.

Byline: Nevin Barich Nevin Barich (born August 6, 1979) is a former American sports journalist now working as the Senior Editor of The National Notary, a trade magazine based in Los Angeles with a circulation of more than 300,000 nationwide.  Staff Writer

It used to be that, when it came to the Hart High girls' basketball team, it was all Amanda (language) Amanda - A functional programming language derived mostly from Miranda with some small changes. Amanda was written by Dick Bruin and implemented on MS-DOS and NeXT. It is available as an interperator only.  Patton Pat·ton   , Charley 1881-1934.

.

But that changed when the much-hyped freshman Ashlee Trebilcock came to Hart this season. Suddenly, someone else was scoring the points and leading the team. And someone else was sharing in the glory.

But rather than complain about having to adjust her star role, Patton, a junior shooting guard The Shooting guard (SG), also known as the two or off guard,[1] is one of five traditional positions on a basketball team. Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards. , has relished having someone with whom to share the responsibilities of leading the Indians INDIANS. ``I never really felt I completely carried the team,'' Patton said, ``but I like having Ashlee as a teammate because it's it's

kind of cool knowing we have a great all-around team.''

The previous two seasons, Patton had been the big player for Hart. Playing point guard, she started as a freshman, was named to the All-Foothill League team two years in a row and last year was named to the All-CIF second team.

This season, Patton remains a dominant force. She's she's

averaging 14 points and leads the team in assists despite not playing the point.

``The fact she's leading us in assists ... you'd you'd

figure our point guard would do that,'' Hart coach Dave Munroe said. ``But that just goes to show you how unselfish of a player Amanda is.''

Part of Patton's continued success has come because she's now able to play at her natural position of shooting guard. There, Patton can be more involved in the offense and still make plays for her teammates if needed.

``Amanda's best position is definitely at shooting guard,'' Munroe said. ``She played point guard because she was the best ball-handler we have. But now, at shooting guard, we can combine more of her abilities. She's a great spot-up shooter and is really a general on the court at times.''

Patton agrees.

``Now I get to shoot the ball more,'' Patton said. ``And it makes me a better passer because I can be up top handling the ball or go to the post.''

Many of Patton's teammates, such as junior Ali Campbell, like the new- look Indians and the new role Patton plays.

``The switch allows us to run our offense better,'' Campbell said. ``Now two people can handle the ball so we can have more options.''

Although she's no longer the point guard, Patton continues to gain experience at that position by playing the point for the American Roundball Club Sparks Sparks, city (1990 pop. 53,367), Washoe co., W Nev., just E of Reno; inc. 1905. The Southern Pacific RR was the major employer until the dieselization of railroad engines forced the closing (1957) of the railroad shops there.  of North Hollywood. Patton said she likes playing the point because it allows her to keep her passing skills sharp, something she believes college scouts will like.

Patton said she's talked with several colleges and wants to stay in California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). , most likely a small private university.

``I like those type of schools because I like that small high school atmosphere,'' Patton said. ``I don't like having 250 people in one class. I prefer more one-on-one teaching.''
