BURBANK - Burbank police searched Thursday for an attempted murder suspect who fired a bullet through a woman's window and injured her, officials said.

The 24-year-old woman, whose identity was not released, was treated and released from Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her left hand, Giles said.

The incident started when a man knocked repeatedly on the apartment door of the woman living in the 200 block of West Tujunga Avenue, said Lt. Don Brown.

After peering through a peephole, the woman opened her front door. That's when a gunshot sounded and the woman slammed the door closed, but a bullet fired through the window grazed her hand as she retreated to the rear of the apartment, Brown said.

Witnesses said they saw a man on the woman's balcony trying to make contact with her, Lt. Robert Giles said. The woman lives in the apartment with another woman and a child.
