BURBANK TO SEEK POWER PLANT LICENSE FOR MAGNOLIA SITE.

 Power Plant, taking the first step toward replacing its decade-old generators with cleaner, more efficient units to meet its energy needs in the coming years.

The council agreed at its meeting Tuesday night to spend more than $2 million to apply to the California Energy Commission The California Energy Commission is California’s primary energy policy and planning agency. Created in 1974 and headquartered in Sacramento, the Commission has responsibility for activities that include forecasting future energy needs, promoting energy efficiency through  for licensing. The money also would go toward conducting a study on how much energy the city will need in the coming years.

The city's Public Service Department is interested in replacing as many as three of the 1940s and '50s era generators with new units that use 20 percent less fuel while producing 50 percent more energy and emitting e·mit

The cost of that new technology - estimated by Public Service Department officials at about $150 million - will require the city to enter into partnerships with other public and private entities.

Therefore, the city plans to conduct the project under the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Public Power Authority, which would help coordinate with other power plants. The plant itself, though, would be maintained and operated by city employees.
