BURBANK SET TO ROLL OUT TEEN `WHEELS' PROGRAM.

Byline: Analucia DaSilva Staff Writer

Got Wheels will be up and running as of 9:15 this morning, picking up and dropping off young Burbank residents and taking them to parks, the mall, facilities with summer activities and other places young people like to hang out.

The city's Youth Task Force recommended the service to relieve the summertime transportation problems faced by young people with working parents. There are plenty of services for children and places to go to occupy their summertime hours, and now they can get to them, city officials said.

``Parents are worried about kids' safety,'' says Mary Alvord, parks director. ``I've talked to a lot of parents who are very excited. It's a very unusual program that can really benefit families.''

So far, 115 youths have signed up for the service. Got Wheels signs went up at the bus stops last week. Since then, the Got Wheels hotline has been ringing almost constantly, Alvord said.

The Got Wheels route includes stops at the following parks: George Izay, Valley, Verdugo, McCambridge, Lundigan, Miller, McKinley and Pacific. Verdugo and McCambridge parks have pools, and there is a skateboard facility at Valley Park.

Other stops include Burroughs Summer School, Elmwood Achievement Center, Media City Center Mall and theaters, the Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E.
