Burbank approached Glendale City Manager Jim Starbird for the position, but Glendale City Council members last Monday voted to sweeten sweet·en v. sweet·ened, sweet·en·ing, sweet·ens v.tr. 1. To make sweet or sweeter by adding sugar, honey, saccharin, or another sweet substance. 2. To make more pleasant or agreeable. the terms of Starbird's contract by including a 3 percent raise to keep him from pursuing the job in Burbank. Effective next year, Starbird will earn $201,999. Burbank refuses to release the specific salaries of its employees. Instead, officials said she will earn between $145,104 to $151,200, or 10 percent more than the range of her temporary job as interim city manager.
