BURBANK PREVIEWS REDEVELOPMENT PLAN.

The city of Burbank has unveiled an ambitious $229 million plan to develop a recreational park, regional transit center and child-care facility in one of the community's most blighted blight

The redevelopment project would be constructed in a 467-acre commercial area along San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the  in the southeastern corner of the city and is expected to generate $545 million in tax revenue over 45 years, officials said.

``It's an area we've neglected,'' said Councilman Bob Kramer. ``The south San Fernando Road corridor is the most blighted in the city. We have people who have abandoned businesses. At one time it was home to a bunch of car dealers. The car dealers eventually went broke.''

The Burbank City Council ordered its Community Development Department late Tuesday to start presenting its draft San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

Burbank City Manager Robert ``Bud'' Ovrom said those businesses most likely would be able to stay in the project area but would be given relocation money if it becomes necessary to make way for new development.

Burbank is enjoying an office vacancy rate near zero percent, but Ovrom said this area needs major infrastructure improvements in order to draw development.

The Burbank City Council is expected to make a decision on creating the new project area in June.

The project area would be bounded roughly on the north by Burbank Boulevard, N. Victory Boulevard Victory Boulevard is a major thoroughfare on Staten Island, measuring approximately 8.0 miles (12.87 km) and stretching from the west shore community of Travis to the upper east shore communities of St. George and Tompkinsville.  on the west, San Fernando Road on the east and Alameda Avenue on the south.

It would be the fourth project area under the supervision of the city's Community Development Department.
