Hooven was put on the hot seat after former Burbank High School football coach John Hazelton told a school board committee that he had informed Hooven of the alleged incident within days of being told himself by the student who was involved. Hazelton told the committee investigating Hooven that the school board president told him not to tell anyone about the alleged incident.
