The city's license and code services division sent Republican contender John Geranios a written warning in February after inspectors found more than 30 signs had been posted without permission from property owners.

Then over the weekend, Burbank police officers got involved when Councilman Bob Kramer reported seeing workers post Geranios signs randomly along Glenoaks Boulevard and San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. It starts off in Castaic as The Old Road, passing through Santa Clarita and the Newhall Pass, where upon its intersection with Sierra Highway near the junction of the Golden State (I-5) and the .

"Obviously he doesn't bother to get permission to put up the signs," Kramer said.

Geranios, the money leader in the race by more than $200,000, said the company he hired to post the signs, Impact Posters, has assured him they obtained permission for every sign that was posted.

"I'm holding them accountable for every sign. They have assured me the signs have been posted with the compliance of the owner," Geranios said. "They are contractually obligated ob·li·gate

Geranios said that if Burbank officials continue to find instances where signs have been posted illegally, he will consider terminating his contract with Impact Posters.

While the Geranios campaign staff is handling the placement of signs on residential properties, the candidate has hired Impact Posters to get permission and post signs on commercial properties, he said.

In a Feb. 13 letter to Geranios, Terre Hirsch, the city's licensing and code services supervisor, ordered the campaign to stop posting signs without permission.

Kramer said he asked police to take a report after he discovered the workers erecting signs Sunday.

"They said their instructions from their boss was they didn't need the owner's permission, and that if the owner ran them off, to just leave the property," Kramer said.

But under the Burbank Municipal Code, candidates cannot post signs on public property and can only post signs on private property with the owner's permission, said Terry Stevenson, senior assistant city attorney.

Stevenson said his office is trying to determine if signs posted Sunday also were posted without the permission of property owners.
