Four-year-old Katie O'Brien of Burbank has been chosen by the Comstock and Wilderness pie filing companies as one of three children nationally acknowledged as an ``All American Cutie cut·ie also cut·ey

She was awarded a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond Savings bond

``If you've ever seen Katie you'd know how really outgoing she is. She waved to everyone; she loved every minute of it,'' she said.

O'Brien entered the contest by submitting a photo of Katie with an essay describing the ``cutest thing her child had ever said or done.'' She said that while visiting Disneyland, Katie set a chair in front of a towering Mickey Mouse to climb up and meet him eye to eye. While standing face to face, she kissed him on the nose and said, ``Ahh . . . that's just what I needed!.''

She also received a trophy and a visit to Minneapolis for a photo shoot.

She plans on taking cousins Jesse and Kristen Frederick to the theme park sometime in June.

Two local students have been recognized for outstanding writing and academic achievement.

Ashley Oppenberg, a fifth-grade student from Chatsworth Hills Academy Chatsworth Hills Academy (CHA) is a private, coeducational day school located in Chatsworth, California, USA. CHA students are enrolled in Grades K through Eight and Preschool. , has been named first-place winner in the American Lawyers Association, Southern California Chapters' Creative Writing Contest.

Ashley was awarded $200 and an opportunity to participate in the national competition.

Students were asked to respond to the statement, ``Why I am glad America is a Nation of Immigrants.''

The poems and essays were judged by Los Angeles school The Los Angeles School of Urbanism is an academic movement emerged during the mid-1980s, loosely based at the University of Southern California and UCLA, that poses a challenge to the dominant Chicago School of Urbanism.  district Board of Education member Genethia Hayes, state Assemblyman Tony Cardenas, D-Panorama City, and Ronald Lew, U.S. District Court judge.

The Valley University Women will honor 15 seniors from local high schools with $1,500 Scholarship Awards at a luncheon in their honor May 16.
