Rancho resident Roman Gora, who helped organize the opposition, relished the outcome.

"I'm mainly appreciative that the council understand the uniqueness of the Rancho and concerns of the neighborhood," Gora said.

"We wish Whole Foods well in finding a new location."

Still, the council unanimously urged city staff to help the developer find another location.

"I would hope that Whole Foods wouldn't fold its tent," said Mayor Todd Campbell, who supported the store. "We desperately want a Whole Foods in Burbank."

Besides Campbell, Councilman Jef Vander Borght supported the market, while David Golonski, Marsha Ramos and David Gordon David Gordon may refer to:

Michael Besancon, the Austin, Texas-based grocer's Southern Pacific Region president, said Wednesday the company will try to find other locations in Burbank.

"While we'd like to partner with the city of Burbank for this project, we respect that the community has spoken," he said in a prepared statement.

The nearest Whole Foods are in Glendale and Sherman Oaks.
