The Burbank Burbank, city (1990 pop. 93,643), Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1911. Tourism and the entertainment industry are central to its economy; several motion-picture studios and television headquarters are here. Burbank's aerospace industry collapsed with the end of the Cold War.  City Council approved the $1 million sale of a 1-acre parking lot behind the new police and fire facility to the school district to build a new headquarters, officials said Wednesday.

``This was the result of more than one and a half years of negotiations that have finally come to fruition fru·i·tion

In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. The council approved the deal late Tuesday night.

``It's an ideal location,'' Kiafar said. ``We have a lot of interactions with the city.''

Robert Tague, Burbank Community Development director, agreed.

``I think it allows a use that's compatible and kind of brings the school board more into the city,'' Tague said.

Kiafar said the district will not start building on the site for at least five years, because it is in the process of making major renovations to schools.

The parcel has a surface-parking structure over one level of subterranean parking used by fire and police department employees. The structure is engineered to support up to a 50,000-square-foot-building.

Kiafar said plans have not been developed yet, but the headquarters will be constructed atop the surface parking level, still leaving about 60 or 70 parking spaces there for the district.

Tague said at one point the city had considered selling the property to a private developer, but the police and fire departments were worried emergency vehicles would be denied access.

``There was some concern by police and fire and so we took it off the market, he said. That gave the school board an opportunity.

``When the new building is built it won't take away from access,'' he said. As part of the deal, the police and fire vehicles will always be allowed to use the subterranean parking.
