Aside from her parents and her friends, graduate Meg Quinn thanked school Principal Ron Lipari for his dedication - right down to cleaning up trash during lunch period and stopping to chat with students at the lunch tables. It was acts like that that showed her and everyone around her that Lipari was an approachable administrator. ``It was a welcome change,'' she said.

Quinn teared up during her speech, as did graduate Rachel Victoreen, when they took turns speaking to the mammoth crowd. The students and close friends took a timeout to hug each other.

Students said the bonds they made at Burbank High will stay close to their hearts always.

One teacher whose bonds were countless received two standing ovations and deep-voiced cheers like ``You the man,'' and ``We love you.''

Retiring teacher Larry Auzene said goodbye to the students and their parents, many of whom at one time sat in his class or played to his coaching on the football field. Auzene taught 30 years at Burbank High in a 36-year career.

As Auzene reflected on his career, he was proud to say that he spent his days with the future of this country.

``If I made a difference in just one child's life, it has all been worth it,'' he said as the applauding crowd jumped to its feet.

Lipari announced Scott Stephenson as the valedictorian and Erik Lontok and Moses Ong as salutatorians of the class of 1999.

Summing up four years of the good and the bad, the stressful and the disappointing, Lontok smiled at the audience of faces and said, ``I would not have had it any other way.''
