BUNDLE CAUSES JAM; SQUAD DESTROYS PACKAGE OF TRASH.

Motorists endured a hellish morning commute Thursday when authorities closed down the Golden State Freeway The Golden State Freeway is a north-south freeway running through Kern County and Los Angeles County, California. Originally built as U.S. Highway 99, it was re-signed as Interstate 5 in 1964.  for several hours to investigate a suspicious package, authorities said.

The package, however, turned out to contain only trash.

 officers closed the freeway after finding the package about 3:50 a.m. below the freeway, on San Fernando Road San Fernando Road is a major street in the city and county of Los Angeles. At that time, the bomb squad determined that the package contained trash.

The freeway was closed several times during the investigation as a precaution but was completely reopened about 10:30 a.m.

Still, traffic remained stacked up for miles, particularly in the south lanes.
