Arizona erupted for four runs in the ninth inning against the 49ers' suddenly porous bullpen, pulling out a 6-5 win before a boisterous Blair Field Blair Field is a stadium in Long Beach, California. It originally opened in 1956 and is primarily used for baseball. It holds 3,238 people.

The 49ers will hand the ball today to Cesar Ramos (11-4), hopeful of keeping their season alive. The Wildcats will go with Kevin Guyette (6-6), hopeful of making it to Omaha and the College World Series.

The 49ers (39-20) were well on their way there behind Weaver until the Wildcats (34-24-1) unloaded on Long Beach State's bullpen.

``It's disappointing to go into the ninth with a three-run lead and not win,'' said catcher Brad Davis Brad Davis may refer to:

``But (the Wildcats) still have to deal with us.''

Weaver struck out 12 in his 7 2/3 innings and jumped his season strikeout total to 213, the sixth-best total in NCAA history. But he'd also thrown 137 pitches, the most he'd thrown in a game in his three years at Long Beach State.

Brian Anderson got out of the eighth OK but gave up a single to open the ninth before Neil Jamison took over. Instead of emerging with his 13th save, he was saddled with his fourth loss in seven decisions and charged with three runs in just a third of an inning.

The bullpen had been one of the club's strengths early on but has been awful of late, especially during the seven-game losing streak to end the regular season. During that skid the pen has allowed 17 earned runs in just 14 1/3 innings, giving it an earned run average earned run average

``The bullpen still has good stuff,'' Davis said. ``It's just that they're missing spots and the batters are taking advantage by putting good swings on the ball.''
