In the match against Quartz Hill, which Highland won 39-30, the Bulldogs had to overcome an early deficit, then held off a late comeback by the Rebels to pull out the victory.

``I was real proud of the kids,'' said Highland coach Mike Young. ``They had to make weight four days in a row, plus it was finals week. We had study hall before practice and some kids had to take an extra final in the afternoon because we were leaving for Morro Bay.''

The Rebels impressively opened the match with two victories at 103 and 112 pounds to take a 9-0 lead.

But Roland Aldabert, Highland's career victory leader, scored a technical fall (15 or more points) and John Garfinkel had a pin to earn the Bulldogs valuable points.

Stuart Young then went on to win the California Invitational. He is now 43-4 with 32 pins competing at both 145 and 152 pounds.

Aldabert (second place) and Garfinkel (fifth) also earned medals at the California Invitational.

``I think Stuart stepped up and made a statement by beating Mattison on Friday and then taking the tournament,'' Mike Young said.

However, Highland needed other big victories to beat Quartz Hill. The Rebels got victories from Mike Kott (171) and Jacob Waasdorp (215) to pull within 33-30 before Highland heavyweight Joe Younan pinned his opponent to clinch Clinch, river, c.300 mi (480 km) long, formed by the junction of two forks in SW Va., and flowing generally SW across E Tenn. to the Tennessee River at Kingston.  the victory.

``I knew Quartz Hill was tough,'' Mike Young said. ``I'm nervous right until everyone makes weight and then I calm down. But as the match progressed I got nervous again against Quartz Hill.''
