BUG KILLS NURSERY GIRL.

A GIRL aged four has died in hospital after contracting a killer virus which causes meningitis meningitis (mĕnĭnjī`tĭs) or cerebrospinal meningitis (sĕr'əbrōspī`nəl), acute inflammation of the meninges, the membranes that cover and protect the brain and spinal cord. .

Leigha Corns, who attended St Elizabeth's Nursery in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was infected last week.

She died on Monday in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is the name of 2 hospitals in Scotland:

 at Yorkhill in Glasgow, where she was being treated for meningococcal infection. Last night health chiefs insisted the chances of other pupils being infected were minimal.

However, parents with children at the nursery were told of her death.

They have also been told to contact their local GP and seek urgent medical advice if any of their children show symptoms - which include fever, vomiting vomiting, ejection of food and other matter from the stomach through the mouth, often preceded by nausea. The process is initiated by stimulation of the vomiting center of the brain by nerve impulses from the gastrointestinal tract or other part of the body.  and rashes.

Leigha is understood to have contracted the infection last week.

Elizabeth Bradshaw, head teacher at the toddler's nursery, said: "This child was a happy, caring, fun loving child, who endeared herself to all of the children and staff."
