After the 6 percent mandatory increase on last year's city contract for Sheriff's Department services, which translates to $696,000, the proposed public safety budget includes $404,000 more than was allocated the previous year.

Those funds will pay for three new deputy positions - one of which will be assigned to the traffic division at the Santa Clarita sheriff's station - and a civilian position to assist with the city's successful red light-camera program.

Lastly, $100,000 of the increased public safety budget proposal is earmarked for the reactivation reactivation
