The schools will share $4,000 worth of new books. ``I think literacy is a big part of the development of a child and seeing the conditions of some of the libraries, our committee took the task of bringing some of those books up to date,'' said Victor Vega, Lancaster West Rotary youth committee chairman. An indication of the condition of some school library books, he said, came from his 8-year-old daughter, who saw the books to be donated do·nate v. do·nat·ed, do·nat·ing, do·nates v.tr. Vega added: ``This will encourage the kids.'' Tierra Bonita South Elementary School elementary school: see school. Principal Sally Szwenik appreciates the donation and hopes it will encourage students to read for pleasure. ``As in anything else, if you play pro basketball or golf, whatever sport, you have to practice and kids have to practice reading,'' said Szwenik. ``So we hope by giving them books that they're very interested in, that they will read more.'' The Rotary Club will donate books to Sierra Elementary and Mariposa schools next week. ``We're hoping that we can have books in all the classrooms, but that will take some time to accomplish that,'' said Vega.
