BUBB, BATESOLE TO DISCUSS CSUN BASEBALL.

Cal State Northridge athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Paul Bubb will meet today with baseball coach Mike Batesole for the first time in four weeks to discuss the future of the Matadors' baseball program.

Batesole has been waiting to see whether the school reinstates the program after canceling it on June 11. Pressure has been mounting on Northridge officials since state Sen. Cathie Wright successfully convinced a Legislative conference committee to approve $586,000 for Northridge's sports program.

Wright has urged school officials to begin making immediate plans to reinstate baseball and men's volleyball for this season. Men's soccer and men's swimming, also dropped by the school last month, have been reinstated.

Bubb said Monday he has been asked to put together plans in case the money comes through to reinstate the sports for one year. He is optimistic the program will be reinstated but is ``concerned what shape the program will be in.''

Batesole said top players won't want to join the team unless a long-term commitment is given, particularly construction for a new stadium.

``I've talked to nine players today and every one said they'd come back (if a stadium were built),'' Batesole said.

If Northridge approves the return of baseball, Batesole still has time during the summer to recruit new players since many of the Matadors' returning players have already decided on new schools.
