BTexact study defines global carriers' IP router requirements.

Business & High-Tech Editors

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2002

BTexact Technologies announces completion of study to define

carrier requirements for core IP routing platforms and

invites vendors to participate in evaluation

BTexact Technologies, BT's advanced research and technology business, today announced the completion of a comprehensive study of carrier requirements for core IP routing platforms.

The study combines expertise and research from BTexact with the results of a survey of network architects at leading global carriers. BTexact is now inviting suppliers to have their equipment evaluated against their customers' requirements.

The study was developed in response to growing customer demand. It is widely recognized that sterile one-dimensional tests do not accurately reflect the demands placed upon routers in a carrier's network. This study identifies the performance requirements of a router to meet the stresses of a multi-protocol operational environment. It identified reliability, scalability and performance, as the three primary design attributes required of core router A router that resides within the middle or backbone of the network rather than at its periphery. "By working with BTexact to evaluate new technology customers can measure themselves against an objective benchmark and assess very quickly and efficiently whether their equipment meets the market requirements. The survey findings will ensure that the evaluation process can be accelerated for potential customers."

Graham concluded: "To test or evaluate any area of technology, you need to have the right experience, the right people, the right partners and the right facilities. Many of the people working at BTexact are world leaders For a list of heads of state, see .

BTexact has extended an invitation to leading vendors of core router equipment to participate in testing of their equipment against objective carrier requirements.
