, recently named one of the top three product integrators/a in the country, uses off-the-shelf products to create low-cost, custom solutions to clients' specific requirements.

Catherine E. Yandel, vice president and general manager of BTG's Information Systems group, said the air traffic control system is an area in which product integration is essential. "As the skies become more crowded, air traffic authorities need the most advanced technology available -- and they need it now. Proven products are readily available to meet that need. What is required is the expertise to select the right products and integrate them into a customized system quickly and efficiently."

Yandel said product integration is considerably less expensive than custom development. "Development costs drop dramatically when COTS, GOTS and NDI/b products are used. In addition, an agency usually has existing product that can be reused in the new system, reducing costs and simplifying the training process. The result is custom performance for a fraction of the time and cost of custom development."

BTG's ATCA exhibit features a wide range of products and services that BTG has integrated, including information systems developed by BTG using COTS/NDI COTS/NDI Commercial Off-The Shelf/Non-Development Item  products. BTG will also link convention-goers to the Internet's World Wide Web, using the Netscape Navigator An earlier Web browser for Windows, Macintosh and X Windows from Netscape that provided secure transmission over the Internet. Soon after its introduction in 1994, Navigator, or just "Netscape," as it was commonly called, quickly became the leading browser on the Web.  for access to relevant Air Traffic Control information, such as FAA and weather-related home pages. BTG is Netscape's reseller to the Federal market, offering the popular Netscape Navigator browser as well as Netsite Commerce and Communications Servers See network access server, modem server, terminal server and communications controller.
