BTG Awarded NIH ImageWorld Contract; BTG Team Selected for $100 Million Imaging Systems Program.

 research. The goal is to convert traditional databases on paper into electronic files that can be retrieved and shared among government workers. The five-year ImageWorld contract is open to all agencies of the federal government.

Scott Weaver, vice president for marketing of BTG's Integration and Network Systems, said the BTG team brings together a group of companies with the specialized skills and experience needed to meet NIH's requirements. "Imaging systems are becoming essential in medical research, which is central to NIH's mission. With electronic storage and retrieval, researchers will have easy access to historical files as well as the most current medical data. Our team members are industry leaders in providing complete imaging solutions to commercial and government customers, and we look forward to helping NIH carry out its mission."

Weaver said the BTG team covers every aspect of imaging-related technologies, including imaging systems to convert paper documents for electronic storage, document management systems for indexing, accessing and retrieving documents, and systems that manage the workflow of administrative correspondence.

The BTG team will offer commercial off-the-shelf Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) is a term for software or hardware, generally technology or computer products, that are ready-made and available for sale, lease, or license to the general public.  (COTS) hardware and software, imaging systems, and engineering services on its ImageWorld home page on the World Wide Web. BTG is experienced in working with NIH on contracts similar to ImageWorld, including NIH's Electronic Computer Store, an online shop for computer-related products. Open to buyers throughout the federal government, the multiple-award, two-year Electronic Computer Store contract has an aggregate ceiling of $96.8 million.

Weaver said ImageWorld provides an additional channel through which BTG can provide its imaging services and products. "Along with our subcontractors," Weaver said, "we anticipate that ImageWorld will be extremely successful in increasing our market share of the government's imaging-related technologies."
