BTG Appoints Fulcrum Pharma as its Preferred Provider of Drug Development Services.

), the global intellectual property and technology commercialization company, announced today that it has appointed Fulcrum Pharma Development Ltd. (LSE: FUL), the independent drug development services company, as its preferred provider of preclinical and clinical development services in the therapeutic areas of Oncology and Ageing & Neuroscience.

This appointment reflects another major step for BTG in implementing its strategy to enhance the value of selected pharmaceutical compounds in its portfolio by investing in their preclinical and/or clinical development prior to out-licensing. BTG has already contracted Fulcrum to provide development services for its clinical trial of BGC 9331 - a potential treatment for gastric and other cancers. This Phase I/II trial is ongoing.

It is anticipated that the first programs performed under the preferred provider relationship will be: BGC 945 - a new and highly selective potential treatment for cancers that is designed to be much less toxic and better tolerated than conventional drugs; and BGC 20-1259 for the treatment for Alzheimer's Disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. . In the longer-term, BTG has a strong pipeline of early-stage pharmaceutical opportunities that may be candidates for further development prior to out-licensing.
